Operating surgical procedures

The constantly expanding range of available treatments at the AMC now includes thyroid surgical procedures performed at our medical centre. The procedure aims for a total removal of the thyroid gland or its pre-determined section in connection with pathological lesions. The scope of treatment is determined by the surgeon performing the procedure. Qualification for the procedure is subject to endocrinological diagnostics, which includes, amongst others prehospital thyroid ultrasonography, fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), thyroid hormone tests.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Degenerative changes to the thyroid gland (benign nodules, cysts);
- large goitres with symptoms of pressure to adjacent organs;
- Isolated nodules with or without hormonal hyperactivity;
- Thyroid tumours or suspected tumours;
- Inflammatory lesions;
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding;
- Unsuccessful preventative treatment;

The thyroid procedure is performed by Katarzyna Mikołajczyk MD PhD, general surgery and vascular surgery specialist. Doctor Mikołajczyk is a member of the Polish Society of Surgery and the Polish Society of Vascular Surgery, has extensive experience within the field of thyroid surgery, vascular, general and laparoscopic surgery.
